Every time I watch Nick Boyd tape, I'm just left thinking...man this dude just knows how to hoop. Looked good at the draft combine. Has great footwork, great change of pace, great change of direction, and protects the ball. Good layup package at the rim, and has a knack for turning his body to shield the ball. Was 100th percentile at rim shot attempts for guards, which illustrates how great he is at getting to the rim, despite only being an average athlete. Elite feel for the game. Decent shooter from mid-range and three. See a little Jalen Brunson in how he plays, although he doesn't have as elite brakes or tough shot making ability. Good passer. Won't get many stocks due to lack of athletic tools, but moves well enough to hold his own. One of the oldest prospects in recent memory at 25. Despite that, I think he sticks as a backup PG in the league for a long time.
Underrated as a second-round level talent. I think Boyd has enough athleticism (speed/burst/flexibility specifically) to hang on an NBA floor, and his fearless attitude helps his case too. I've seen him attack so many bigs this season and finish successfully. He's a walking paint touch, one of my favorite traits for a backup PG to have. He's been one of the best paint scorers in the Big 10 this year regardless of position. He's a streaky shooter, but he can definitely get hot and fill it up. His size will ultimately hurt him a decent bit I think as he transitions to the next level, especially because he's not only short-ish but also thin. Still, he competes so hard and he's so skilled. He's a change-of-pace guard I'd love to have somewhere in my depth chart.
